廢鋼打包機的基本要求：
（1）要有足夠的擠壓力。能使被處理的金屬材料產生塑性變形束塊，并使被束塊達到一定要求的密度。
（2）要有一個能容納金屬物料、并能封鎖起來承受擠壓力的料箱。在知足這兩項基本要求的條件下，又根據不同的應用要乞降不同的處理對象，就產生了很多不同類型的金屬打包機。金屬打包機的工作原理，就是在一個封鎖的料箱內，使用工作力推動壓頭對金屬物料進行擠壓，使金屬物料形成一定尺寸和密度的束塊。
